Jaw pain is a common complaint that can be caused by problems with the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), stress, or overuse of the chewing system. Overuse may result from habits such as lip biting, clenching, grinding, or tongue pressing. These issues can lead to pain or restricted jaw movement, with or without a clicking sound. Muscle tension can also cause pain radiating to the neck, head, ear, or teeth.

Treatment consists of mobilisations, stretches, and jaw exercises. The TMJ is rarely treated in isolation — therapy often includes the cervical spine and neck muscles. Collaboration with other healthcare professionals (e.g. dentist, orthodontist, speech therapist, or maxillofacial surgeon) is essential, as TMJ disorders are often multifactorial.
